Professor Von Haast, Director of Museums, has received intimation by cable from London that the Royal Geographical Society has awarded him its gold medal for his geographical vesearehe3 and exploration m New Zealand. Dunedin, May 17. In the Proviucial saleyards- there is a gasometer for working the limelight at the Theatre. This morning, William Walker, gasfitter, was repairing a leak when an explosion occurred, by whic he sustained serious injuries. He had been warned by James Peake, the mechanist, not to proceed with the repairs till the latter was present.
