Auckland, May 14. A deputation consisting of the Hon. Mr Chamberlain and Messrs T. B. Hill, C. 0. Davis, and A. Cox, secretary of the Gospel Temperance Mission, waited upon the Governor to-day with a native petition re the King Country being proclaimed against the liquor traffic. The Governor promised the petition should have due consideration. The petition was signed by Wahunai, Rewi, and other influential chiefs.
