Dunedin, May 14. At a meeting of tlie Vigilance Comniittee, held ti) day, it was resolved to call a public meeting to discuss certain resolutions drawn up by Mr Pyke, |M,H.R , representing to the Government the grave impolicy of discharging men from the works on ihe Hindon section at the approach of winter, when many men are employed m Dunedin; aud generally directing attention to the delay m prosecuting the works. A meeting of shareholders m the Coffee Palace and Private Hotel Company was held 'to-day, m consequence of the stoppage of the company's ciedit and the dishonoring of their cheques. It was resolved that the meeting should be adjourned for [ a month, and that the directors be instructed, m the meantime, to call for tenders ihroughout New Zealand and Australia for purchase of the j company's assets.
