Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY. ) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. THURSDAY, MAY 15, 1884. SIR JULIUS YOGEL.

Ttf order to make room m extenso forSirJuuu.s VoGEi/smost interesting address to the electors of the East Coast District, and which we arc sure will be eagerly perused by all classes of -readers, we have been obliged to abbreviate other matter as much as possible. The address contains entirely new features, being something far above the average of ordinary political addresses, typical of the master mind of the great politician. We foresee him speedily attainin the front rank of the leaders of parties, and can also foresee that a complete revolution m political matters is rapidly approaching. The followers of Atkinson, of Gkey, of Montgomery of Wakefielo, and the other rank and file will sooner or later sever their allegiance, and a new party will spring into existence with Sir Julius Yogel at its head, which will soon become dominant. Let us hope that at the next general election the best men will be returned, so that with a new Government and a progressive order of things, our colony will shake off its lethargy and depression and have a return of the prosperity that attended the Vogelian regime before. Much has been gained since m the way of experience — dearly bought, no doubt, but all the more valuable on that account — the effect of which should be to prevent a recurrence of the series of mistakes and errors of administration which, one after another, have brought about the present disastrous reaction. The

eyes of the Colony will now be fixed on Sir Julius Yogel as the future Premier, and to his hands the management of affairs will be entrusted with confidence. No one, since his departure, has come on the scene who can be compared with him m statesmanship and political ability ; and at no. more opportune period could he have offered his services to New Zealand
