THE GOVERNMENT CENSURED.

In the House of Commons to-day Sir Michael Hicks Beach introduced a motion of which he had given notice, censuring the Government for the delay which has occurred m the arrangements for rescuing Geueral Gordon Pasha, and the garrison of Khartoum. The mover made a lengthy speech to which Mr Gladstone replied. — The Premier said that the Government would not embark on a mission to reconquer Soudan as they have a special duty towards the nation as well as General Gordon. Steps would be taken to assist the latter if he proved to be m danger, but it is necessarry to consider the season, and the climate of the Soudan before despatching troops. The debate still continues.
