SECTION 443.
It is probable a petition 'will be drawn up and presented to Parliament anent the manner m which the Manawatu Eoad Board has been treated m the matter of the sale of section 443. The Board assume, and with reason, that this land should be considered either Crown land ov deferred payment land, m either of which cases the Board is entitled to a substantial per centage of the amount realized. Strange to say, though it was known that the land is worth from £12 to £15 per acre, it only realized at auction £3 10s, with an additional equivalent fof £2 10s forj improvements. The history of the section m question is too lengthy to narrate here, but we think the Board have grounds for, and are justified m their assumption that they are entitled to a proportion of the proceeds. The Government has studiously ignored all their representations, and now the Board has to have, recourse to a petition to the Heuse m which th^y will have the sympathy of the community, and, we trust also, the cordial support of Mr Walter Johnston. The Chairman, Mr Snelson has left no stone unturned to nduce the Government to recognise the ijust claim of the Board to special consideration m the matter, but all without avail.
