Woodville Items.
(Corresp'.t-lent of Exchange.) Mr Garsford, of Oringi, near Tahoraite, on the Napier road, intends ploughing and putting under cultiva-, tion neyfc season no less than 400 acres of land m one block. Last year he ■burned down somo hundreds of acres of titree scrub, m order to cue the root and thus destroy the plant; at the same time grass seeds were sown. Such undertakings as these m now districts are worth ofy comment. I The Woodville Temperance Hotel has been purchased by Mr Gilbert, of Ohario Valley, Wellington for .£1750. As I predicted m a former letter, tlie sale of the Crown, lands m this district, which took place at Napier the other day, w:ib an absolute failure, on account of the high upset prices. Many.intending settlevs have gone away again disgusted. Only about one-third of Jsho total number of sections offered were taken up, and these, of course, the veiy picfc of the whole.
