We understand that a fund is being raiso'l by public subscription, the appeal beiug very liberally responded to, to defray the expense of an action for slander m the: Supreme Court*; -to. be brought by' CoiiStable G-illespie, m selfvindicatipn, against the person who so falsely maligned" him to his superior officer. We hear "that the initiatory proceedings have already been taken, the person refeiietl to being called upon immediately to withdraw and apologise for the fahe and malicious report that was lately sent to headquarters.
