Important Application.
An important application w:is made m the "Wellioi'ton Supremo Umn-t m OlintnWt % rs t>n i-«.ilinv}jiy by Mr Kdvvaul Shaw, and is, wo (Post) are given to understand, the fiist of the kind ever preferred m the colony. It appears that about three years ngo a woman m Wellington obtained a married women's property protection order m the llesi dent Magistrate's Court, by virtue of which her husband was instructed to contribute towards the support of his wife and family at the iate ot £2 per week. The man left for Australia shortly itfterward, and at the present time is said to be m possession of a station m the northern part of Victoria, where from all accouuts ho is doing; vevy well, so far as the goods of tins world are concerned. Since the issue of the order he has not contributed a single sixpence towards the maintenance of his -wife and children, and there is now an -.a near of übouo £300. Uis wife's friends consider that he be called upon to pay up tho amount due under the order, and the application made to Mr Justice Richmond was to the effect that permission should be granted to the wife, who, by virtue of the order is a feme sole, to serve a writ on her husband for the sum, m arrear. The application was granted by his Honour. The decisiou is a very important one, as it involves a precedent which will doubtless m after years be quoted m similar cases here and fllsp.wliprPi
