Baptist Chapel.

Auckland, April 14. The laying of the foundation stone of the new Baptist Tabernacle took place to-day m the presence of a lai'ge assemblage, consting of the Baptist clergy of the province and ministers of the various <&enonii nations and of Professor Aklio, of the Auckland University, who gave the address. The stone was laid by Dr Kindevdyne and a collection of £400 was made. The soiree m the evening was largely attended. The Rev. Thomas' Spurgeon presided. The tabernacle and school will cost £12,000. It was hoped that the Hon. Thomas Dick, the CoJonial Secretary would havebee n'present, but that gentleman's official duties precluded his attendance.
