(TO THE EDITOR OF THB STANDARD.) Sir, — I see m your contemporary's issue of the 15th a glaring effusion headed a "Rank Swindle," and m -which my name appears as a prominent participator m the same. Aa a rule, it is best (at least m my opinion) to treat newspaper assertions of this character with the contempt they merit, but m this case I would like to state that I had no more interest m Sundown's running, than the owner himself. The horso was~ neither entered by me nor for me, and I have sufficient proof that I had no intention of running the L.oi'3o at all. As regards the horse Charlie' 8 name being put up just before the BtarV^hat, I should take it, was the fault of Mie-13ecretaiy for accepting the entrance after the other names had been posted* on the totalisator and some thirty or forty pounds investod.--l.ftm, &c*> ■■ ■', : -':.'. .'■ ' Tom Wood. ; Paliueraton North, ,a April 16th, 1884.
