(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, April 3. Considerable excitement was occasioned yesterday owing" to the. water supply ro the city being cut off for 48 hours. Every precaution had been taken to obtain two days' supply. There appears to be no danger of an absolute water famine, as after Saturday an intermittent supply will be given, and with care there is sufficient water to last for three months to come. The water question is the one great topic spdken of every wherp, and the question has been under discussion m Parliament and outside. Various schemes have been proposed m the event of the 1 Botany supply giving out altogether, or the drought continuing, and the situation is one of great importance, as at present tfiere appears to be no sign of the drought breaking xip. In the country^districts '"&■ very serious state of things exists. , . ■', "« The Hanlan ,' business is not conrsidered satisfactory. A match has been made for £500 aside between Hanlan and either Trickett or Beach, but the latter declines to row, as lie has a match now pn with Trickett, and may possibly beat him.
