A writer m the Melbourne Weekly times discourses on the value of straw, says it is quite as nourishing £as a large \ ortion of the hay used. He lamen's the waste of straw m the colonies^ and adds that one of the proofs of a qareful, prudent farmer is the pref sence of a weli-thatched sback of sweet .straw on his homestead, as a "stand? by " m case of failure m his root crops or a ; running shprt ,of grass m his ffld,docks. 2fow, the custom of nine farmers oot often is to burn the heap of straw, because it is believed to be of no usefprfooid, and will not pay for staoking; This jus to be depvecated.
