Caution to Doctors.
A Disgraceful Case* Manslaughter by a Medical Man* A Too-Lenient Sentence. (UNITED. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, April 2. At the Supreme Court to-day, Dr Parry, of Kaitangata, was charged with the manslaughter of Sarah Aim Cuthbeftson, through malpractice m childbirth. The jury found that Dr Parry, m, attempting to deliver the woman, heedlessly caused a rupture, from which the woman died. The evidenoe was that the defendant seemed iv a drowsy condition as if recovering from some /narcotic. Some women m the house deposed that m order to rouse him they washed his face, combed his hair, and changed his shirt. He fell qff the sofa at one time, and they put h,im on again. Eventually they sent him out into the garden to get fresh air, but he did not return, and the patient died an hour after he left. The woman never was delivered, Several medical men were called, who gave evidence that cases of internal rupture had occurred, but the theory set up by prosecution was that the rupture was paused by J external -vidlenqe, and this the jury upftold by then* verdic. His Honor sentenced the prisoner to four months' without h.ard labour.
