A Contrast.
Oar fcravellinjr correspondent Bruni, cow m JSTew Zealand, has this week ( says tha Australasian of March 1) a story to tell 'of ah Otagb farmer that must make the mouth water of many an Australian aeleotor cultivating wheat m an arid climate fox a return of 10 bushels to the acre. ; Bruni writes of a 6 eld of 100 acres of wheat which was expected by experts to yield 70 bushels to the acre. When be ■aw .it the. ears were just beginning to change colour, and he says : " I had open heard of exceptionally heary crops of wheat siniSe I arrived in ' Maori-land, but had never seen one before. In all'- my rambles over Australia for many years, T had nererieen anything like that glorious field of wheat.''. Then there was a green pasture used to top up cattle for market, of which Bruni, declares that he " never taw an irrigated meadow that coald equal F ft.' It contained 120 acres and it had 150 head of cattle gracing m it all the summer. And, still the red and white clover was up to the knees of the cattle. Close adioining was a crop of oats, orer 100 acres m extent, that was estimated to yield 100 bushels to the acre. It is impossible to cut these heavy crops with the reaper and binder, and as they had laid m parts, it was only practicable to use the ordinary reaper catting one way. There are some favoured spots m Victoria where these results may possibly be somewhat, approximated to, bat they are very tew and far apart, and the reports show very strongly the great advantages possessed by the best portions of New' Zealand as acorn and grass-growing oouutry over any part of Australia,
