Farewell Gathering

Most of those who had received invitations to meet the Rev. Mr Griffith at the schoolhuse yesterday evening put in an appearance and as far as we could judge enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The ladies had the room very tastefully arranged and the refreshment tables were loaded with choice eatables which were done ample justice to. [illegible]o ceremony was observed during the evening, everybody being at liberty to enjoy themselves as they liked best. Songs and instrumental music enlivened the proceedings, besides which a number of curiosities distributed through the room were examined with interest [illegible]y many. Games and other amusements were indulged in up to about 10 o'clock, after which hour the party broke up having spent a very enjoyable evening. The Rev. Mr Griffith was presen ed with a kaleidoscope and letter scales by the ladies of the congregation. Speeches were made by Messrs Leary, Stubbs, Grace, and Rev. Mr Wright, each of whom spoke highly of the many excel lent qualities possessed by the gentleman about to leave them. Mr Griffiths replied in appropriate terms, thanking them for their good wishes, and the ladies especially for the beautiful and useful material evidence of their friendship.
