r Meibrturne Ar»us has the following :— " An ingenious liank note fraud has been broiight under our notice. The notes df the Union Bank, of all denominations, are similar m colour and design. The valued are shown m thn upper right-hand comer, and m the lower left, m figures (£l, £5, £10, &c), and m the body ia large letters. The figures have been cut out of £5 notes, and neatly pasted over the figures of a £1 not*', so as to make it resemble a note for £5, the words m the body being blurred liy~ "nibbing. ' — note or notes would be sent m with the corner* tom off, so as to look acoideat-aTly'^iiuliilateir/'alfd-wwflcipho doubt, be paid. £1 notes ore so neatly altered as to deceive most people, even experts when not lookiug carefully." The local papers say similar notes are m circulation m Dunedin.
