FLOOD AT THE THAMES.
(united press association.) Thamks, March 7. Vmy heavy rain fell here all last night and this morning, causing the various creeks to overflow and flood the town to an extent not experienced since the "big flood," nearly three years ago. The Borough Council took ! what precautions they could, but the water poured down m such torrents that the culverts were choked, and two creeks, viz., the Waiotahi and the Karaka, flowed osrar their banks and into the principal street, which was covered m places to the depth of a foot with water and debris. The damage occasioned is considerable, but the loss will fall mostly on the Borough Council, though private parties also lose a good deal. It is still raining, but the flood has abated.
