For this event jthe'prjneiual' one of -the meeting the seven horses named, came to the post. A good start ' was effected. Off Colour was the first to get away, followed -closely by Irdnhand, who soon took the lead and made the running fbr'a considerable distance, heading the lead by. fully 50 lengths. Martini, Commotion, were second and third respectively, the others following closely together following close together. -This brder' was -tnaitftaiied until the straight was reached, when Ironhand fell back beaten. Martini then assumed the lead and a^. he passed the stand the first time round,and w^as loudly cheered. Commotion was well up-, and shortly caught, and pasted Martini. Commotion continued the lead • at the far side of the course, and at the sheds Martini was done and dropped back on entering the straight. Commotion still leading, followed closely by Le Grand Off Color, Sting, and Martini at a distance, Le Grand shot ahead with Off Color pressing him close, Commotion t next. Grand, however, maintained 'ins position, ' and passed th« post half a .length ahead. Off Color, ■ wHo by this time was three lengths ' ahead. Commotion and the other horses lowed m the order named. The race ws' 'a -graud one^ .throughout, and : Bplehdidly '-^on by Lfi Q-rand who -was doubly cheered as he came to the weighing paddock.. The win, was a popular one.
