( Qr. .Walker slated lie had again in* j terviewed the settlers on the road/ and ; they were still anxious to have the road i under County management. ; Cr Engels said that when he was ; chairmanrf the Manawatu Boad ,Board j Mr Cottar had applied to have periuis- ! siori to erect a gate across the road m ■ question, and had been refused by the : Board, that he then stated he '• would ;do all he could to prevent the road j being ja County one. \ Ho (J&x \ believed .that the only leason Mr Cotter ; objected to the road being under County ; management was that it would then be i formed through to the Gorge, and this I would compel him to fence three miles. ! At that time Mr Cotter was m pospession of £8d "to be expended on the road ; but refused to expend it until' his api plication was granted. i After )?onie further discussion the chairman asked Cr Walker if he know : whether the road referred to was a pubi lie road.
