Ml* Snelson, as Chairman of the Highway Board, recently addressed a letter tp the Commissioner of Crown Lands explaining that the district was liable to suffer .through its .population leaving on account of employment being scarce and the general : depyession existing. He earnestly requested that some works on Crown I .Land should be pushed, on HO as to afford employment. In the absence of (he Minister of Crown : Lands from Wellington, no definite reply could be given, but there is little doubt but tliat the tenders now called for on. the Pobangina Boad, m the Endowment Block, is the outcome of
Mr Snelson's application. Tiie Chairman's timely and disinterested action m this matter will be recognized by the community at large as api operand heue6cial step. We learn that Mr Snelson next intends to move m urging the Government to push on the road connecting Palmerston with Masterton, through Fitzherbert, now being surveyed by Mr H. S. Palmerson. In this application also he will have the cooperations and sympathy of the whole district, every part of which is more or less interested m the prosecution of that very important undertaking.
