JLt the .meeting laf-t night 'there were present —^Messrs lieary (chairman!),' S^Tyart,jW°odrtooffb, Hawkins, Russell, ajj^ Wright. : 't'sb was resolved on the- motion, of Mii HaHvkins, seconded hy Mr Stewart-*-.-Tliat, Messrs W. H. Watt and J. Greenwood- be recommended "to fill the vacant .seats m. the Education Board. • Visiting. Committee's Report. Tour Committee visited the school qu Thursday morning,. in time for the* opening, 'and inspected all the out-; buildings, grounds, &c, as well .a* thje. whole" of tlie class rooms. ; • The watertank m the girls ground, needs immediate attention. ... The sink is completely covered, and a pool of water gathers ; under-the tap, causing children to get. wet-footed m obtaining water to drink. The .teachers all appeal 1 to be painstaking and zealous. At the same time the restricted .accommodation '■■ afforded by the building seriously hampers them m ,their work. Speaking generally, everyone of . the rooms is. crowded. We found the head-master working with three different classes m his r,oom, v some very yoiirig ; ones being amongst Ihem. The wrqrst. case, is the class preparing for Standard I. This consists of three section^ under one" of the assistants, , Miss Blair. The room is arranged for (three! divisions, bul< only two are able to wo<& at once. The third is. marched into. the. passage, and the lesson gone through there. l We saw one plasft under instruction/there., The; window was thrown up to give _ some ventilation, aijdsa skong ./draught . was' the result; notwithstandingthis, the atmosphere^ , was foul, m a, few moments,; i; owing: .to iowness of the ceiling, the large) niimljser linhalirig it,>!and the : 'smell arising from. the clothes, hats, &o.\ hanging around. We recommend thai the .Board- be. asked: to at once divide with a partition ilm olass-roqra, which would then hold all three classes. - The present arrangement is most unhealthyforibothsteachers f and scholars. Directly; funds are available, the large stones about the giduiids should belralked up.j G, # Hawkjinj ") Visiting < -s t %,- -9"* W* Russell j Commity§a' r ' A *Mr Wriglit .proposed, and Mr Wood-j roffe seconded,:-— " That^t the ( report; of the' Visiting Committee be received!
