SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
An accident of a serious nature occurred yesterday morning at the residence of Mr George K. Wakelin, Broad-street, Palmerston. Mr Wakelin had returned from a ride on a horse which he had purchased the previous day, when before he removed the saddle, Mrs Wakelin expressed a desire to get on horseback. She was mounted, and Mr Wakelin led the horse rounoV'thc l yard once. Mrs Wakelin then attempted to get a firmer seat, and m doing" so overbalanced herself and fell to the ground. When she attempted to rise, the horse commenced to kick, and struck Mrs Wakelin m the face with one of his hoofs, • which knocked her back. The animal was about to make another kick, when Miss Mitchell rushed to , her sister's assistance, and lifted her' out of harm's way. Mr Wakeliu carried his wife, who was bleeding profusely, into the house, and sent for Dr Marriner, who attended promptly. He found that Mrs Wakelin's lip was nearly cut through, which he sewed up, and a deep wound near her left eye. Mrs Wakelin bore her suSerings patiently, and we are glad to hear, though still suffering from the s*evere shock she received, is much better to-day. It was one of the most narrow escapes from a Altai accident that has come under our notice.
