The primary school, a briok building, -was blown, down, the Supreme 'Court unroofed, the pilot shed blown 1 down; and; boats and cutlers lost.' At P"6ol Island tha meat freezing works were damaged to. the extent of . between ■ 'dgQOQQ and £10,000,, The steamer Eindo went ashore,. and her cargo ef frozen- moat was given away to the public". Fortunately no lives were lost, but over a hundred persons will be.destiiiute. Th© Government are taking'steps to relieve the distress. Many-families took refuge m the English church, being homeless, ihe &tonn covererTa, wide area. At Kavenswood the Catholic chapel was levelled to the ground, the priest's' house partly' blown away. The Anglican parsonage and many private dwellings were unroofed.
