Many of tfur readers will be almost as sarprised as we were to learn that, during the last three yeai's, .only about iffcy names have been placed on the Roll for the Electoral District of Manawatu. This fact is evidence that there is a feeling of apathy prevalent m regard to matters political that is not a healthy sign, and that we cannot but depreciate. Tt is not a good thing for the electors as a body to be indifferent as to their rights and privileges. Before j many months, Mauawatu will be called upon to return a member, and it behoves every man who has a stake m the place, and is qualified to vote, to see that his name is on the roll. We trust that bringing, the matter thus prominently under- the notice of the public will have the desired effect. There is scarcely a householder m the district who is not entitled to have his name on the Electoral 8011, and it is his bounden duty to see that it is there, and if not to take the necessary steps without delay to register as a voter. Our population: tnust must not become apathetic m 'this important matter, being one which vitally affects their interest*, local and political. All should desire to have a 'Voice m the election of their representative m Parliament ; and when it is too late, some may find that they have by their own. neglect debarred themselves from exercis ing the privilege of the franchise — one so highly prized -as a fundamental principle of constitutional liberty. We urge upon all unregistered persons, possessing the necessary qualification, to avail themselves of the first possible opportunity to register, , -
