It. lias transpired that Thomas and Son, stock-brokers, who have becomo defaulters for the amount of £800,000, have defrauded the London Chartered Bank of Australasia to the extent of £120,000 by wholesale appropriation of the securities belonging to the Bank's customer.?. ' Melbourne, February 2. The Melbourne office of the London Chartered Bank of Australasia states that according to London advices the bank's losses by the defalcation of Thomas & Son will not exceed £90,000 more than is covered by the reserve fund, which is invested m Consols apart from ordinary business.
