AN EMPTY EXCHEQUER.
The news published elsewhere of the /application under "The |Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882" made by the Oroua County Council to Government, being reduced to less than one fifth, will be considered in the light of the last straw. Not content with exorbitant taxation,, the long suffering public are now to be defrauded Jofthat which is legitimately their rightj and for which they were prepared, to rate themselves as required by that wonderful Act which was to prove a panacea for all the financial troubles of local bodies. It surely is about time that a new order of things in the way lof Government administration were speedily inaugurated.
