The yearly report of the Coffee Palace Company shows an excess of expenditure over the income of £138 14s sd, "which with a depreciation at the rate of 10 per cent, throws the balance — 4J608 4s 2d— to the debit side of profit and loss. The company thus have to call on the proprietor of the building for the guarantee of £200 per year. The Freethbught Association celebrated Tom Pain's anniversary to-night toy aconcert and ball. The Forbury Racecourse will be connected with the Dunedin Telephone Exchange before the Cup meeting, so that messages can then be sent for the first time from the course. The Harbour Board to-day passed a motion confirming the by-laws to increase the harbour dues by 60 per cent. Only seven out of thirteen members were present, and the casting vote of the acting chairman carried the motion.
