Dargaville, M.H.R.'s addressed a onblio meeting m the Choral Hall tonight tfndeV the auspices of the Eight Hours Demonstration Committee. Tim Mayor ] (resided. There was a good attendance. Sir George Grey -referred afresh to Federation, going over much of the previous ground. Tl c complained that the Hon. F. Whitaker had told them little new. He averred that m ; appointing the delegates to the Con- , ference the Governor had exceeded his i powers and committed a broach of duty i to his Sovereign and the people of tho country. The Federal Council would be supretine, and would be over the local ! Legislature. Coloured labour -would be ( introdntied, to the depreciation of white labour and the wages of the Europeans, and m all federal matters New Zealand would be outvoted and overborne. Messrs Moss and Dargaville followed ■ m the same strain. The speeches were well received, and a vote of thanks was accorded.
