On -■ the 7th ot January, daring a Bouth^wost gale, Lionel Olivj.er, aged 21, a native of; Mauritius, aa ordinary seaman, fell from the foreiop, striking the top-gallant rail. .The captain endeavoured to wear the ship, but the men at the 7 wheel reported that Olivier was dead.-: 1 " " ' •-• ;; '" • ' r The barque Mataura, from liondoh, which arrived to-day, was -successfully brought up th<*. Harbour Board!a Victoria Channel to Dunedin this evening. She : was drawing 17ft 2in. A large crowd, assembled on the wharf, and h-r arriral, created much entbusisnm.
