AN OLD COLONIST.
Earl/ on Wednesday; morning, Mr George Jeffs, a reapectcd old Wellington colonist, passed away at the ripe old age of 81 years. The deceased, arrived m Wellington, b.y tb,e ship Gertrude, jn.; jjoyejnbfiry 1841. For eighteen years before his arrival m the colony he served inthe Light Dragoons indifferent parts of of the" world:" 'He r unfortunately, m the early days •of [ colonisation, met with a disaster which | caused a physical ailment, through \thichfor the remainder ofhislife,he was unable to attend to the ordinary duties of life, and through -which he was a sufferer to the end of his days. ' His only son left Wellington 1 for the Australian colonies more than twenty-five years ago, but no tidings have been heard of him for many years past. He leaves an aged widow and twodaughiers who have large families residing .hsar this city. '
