A Peculiar Race.
(UUITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Cacterton, January 15. Tlie match between the two horses Wild Rose and Policy, for £20 a-side, arranged to bo run on Ray's course, Taratahi, last evening 1 , resulted very unusually. They started m the straight, Policy being the favorite, but Wild Rose led to the turn opposite Feist'd store, when the boy steadied her to get round. Policy was apparently outpucod down to the back of the course, but then came up on the ouside. Tho next thing seen wa.s the pair of them springing over the fence bordering the edge of the course. The top of tho rail was smashed. Both boys were ihrown, and the horses galloped homewards. A crowd of horsemen followed, and caught them. Going to Cartertou, Policy was remounted by another rider, jumped over the place they went out, and was ridden tho remainder of tlie race, and claimed the stakes. Wild Rose's owner protested, as ho could have done tlje same and been home before Policy, but thought the race would have to be run again. Tho mutch is likely to be drawn, and another made.
