MR WHITAKER ON FEDERATION AND ANNEXATION.
(united press association.) . Auckland, January 8. The Hon. i l . Whitaker, delegate to ! ihe late Intercolonial Federation Conference,'addressed a public meeting tonight m the Theatre Royal on 1 the proceedings of the late Conference, and the questions of Federation and Annexation. His Worship the Mayor, Mr W. ! R. ; Waddell, presided. There was a good attendance. Mr Whitake'r was well received. He delivered an able and comprehensive address on the Conference and other question's named. He spoke hopefully of the results of .'the labours of the Conference and the public spirit of his fellow delegates. He stated that he had 'reasons' to' believe 1 ' that the annexation .of, New Guinea would be an accomplished fact m six months.
