The British Government m leply to a note recently received from the Egyptian Government m which the latter asked for English assistance m Soudan, has insisted that the Egyptian troops now at Khartoum, should be withdrawn to the second cataract on the Kile. January 7. It has further transpired m connection with the reply to the Egyptian note, the Government has stated" that it is nob opposed to the despatch of a Turkish, expedition to Soudan, provided the whole expense of such expedition is borne by Turkey. " Cairo, January 6. The resignation of i be Egyptian G;O---vernment is believed to be probable, and it is also stated that the Khedive is talking of abdicating.
