- » (Bl TbLKn>HAPi£.> , (UNITED PKESS ABB CIA.TIOS.) I Wellington, January 5. ; At it -meeting of the Council of the I New Zealand Education Institute today thejollowing resolutions were carried. By Mr Peattie :— " That the Senate of the Now Zealand University be memoralised for :»n extension of die , time allowed to teachers proceeding to the B. A. degree." By Mr White :— " That the Government be urged to eliminate history as a pass subject from the thud standard." By Mr White :—- --" TJiat m the opinion of this Council the aunual examination of teachers should be held towards the end of Dec. of, each yeaiy and not immediately alter the Christmas recess, as at present : — " That the President and Secretary be authorised to prepare a report of the proceedings oi the Council, and print 1000 copies foi circulation among the branches of the Institute, the costs to be bogie ptp rata." By Mr Scott : — "That m the opinion of this Council it is against the recognised principles of education, and not m accordance with the standard regulations, that children should necessarily be annually presented m a standard higljer than that previously passed." 'lhe Council then adjourned to meet at Auckland next January.
