WELLINGTON MARKETS.
Wellington, 2nd January, 1884, Laery and Campbell report that there was no great improvement m business, and the Christmas week showed a want of bustle and energy quite unusual for the time of the year. Fresh butter still continues dull and without enquiry, but eggs have been m demand and may be quoted at Is 4d to Is 6d; cheese continues without much and it iv very diffioult to place hist season's make; fowls and ducks, at Saturday's sale, had to be quitted at. much lower prices, but we should still be inclined to give our last quotations as the quantity received here has been but small; geese, on the other hand, hare been sent into the market m great abundance, and became difficult to quit at 2s each; hams and bacon continue without alteration; onions are plentiful and pi ice consequently is giving away. New potatoes are now hanging very heavily and are hard to quit and a small parcel of ol 1 potatoes, useful to bakers or as seed, aw moving very slowly. On Saturdny the entries at the horse sale were not so numerous, owing- ho doubt to the holidays, and throughout the sale the bidding was very poor, not much business being done; the class of horses were not at all attractive. !
