Th ) Auckland Herald's correspon dont at Waitoa writes :— Mr Beauchamp arrived overland from Napier, on Thursday, with another lot, about 100 head of* cattle m fat condition, for Mr Gould. There is plenty of feed upon the road aud no difficulty m bringing fat cattle overland m good condition. The frost, however, was very severe m exposed parts of the journey, while the next day on getting to a lower levol a waim pleasant climate would be met with. Throughout the Hawke's Bay province the weather has been so severe that out of 200,000 sheep not more than 20,000, oi 10 per cent., had boen shorn up to the" middle of this month. As quickly as the sheep were got iv and diy enough for shearing the rain would again set m and render them unfit. The salvage on the steamer Truimph, by her enterprising put chasers, Messrs Fraser and Tinne, means a marvellous stroke of good fortune to that Grno, whose probable profit on the undertuking is estimated at some £20, 00^, if not more. This is the most important achievement m the way of getting off a wrecked s earner that has ever yet been performed m New Zealand. It is snid that glass is gradually beginning to take the place of wood and iron m the construction of bridges m Englaud, The inventor makes blocks of glass which he hardens by a special process. In solidity it is said to leave nothing to be desired. The experiments already m»de have given surprising results, and the cost is below that of bridges of wood or iron. Moreover, the glass cannot be injured by insects like wood, nor rusted like iron. At 4 p.m. Mr Leigh made the following further additions to Messrs Stevens and Gorton's catalogue for the Borough sale on Tuesday, 18 2-year old beifer«, 50 fat weathers, and 100 ewes and lambs m wool.
