SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

A man named O'Brien met with a serious accident in a gravel pit near Ashurst yesterday afternoon, through a fall of metal. The poor fellow got one leg broken, and his other foot badly smashed. He was working on O'Hara and McKay's contract. What makes the case worse is that his wife is only just up after a bad confinement. He was brought in to-day to be sent to Wanganui to the hospital. It is to be hoped some charitably disposed persons will render some assistance to the family in their trying circumstances, is the bread winner will probably be unable to do a stroke for five or six months.
