ANOTHER OPINION.

[to the editor of the standard.] ,Sir, —ln all my experience I never knew such a dastardly attempt as that of the Manawatii'" Times to injure Stevens & Get-ton. The writer of the letter signed "'Settler" in your paper just expre.ssed-iny views on the subject. Tie action is one that is most contemptible, and that no respectable news-: paper -would stoop to-. I suppose Mr! Russell' has- had pounds of Stevens & Gorton's money, but that appears to get: no gratitude. My own private opinion is thnthe sees how things are likely to be before long, and is savage all round,: not caring whom he goes for, or what he says. He is evidently very sore: because a number of the settlers havealready given up his paper, and others are giving it up at the end of the year. But what else can be expected ?. He fills it with,personal abuse, first at one; and then Another. But how ridiculous it is for him to imagine that anything he can say or do in'hfe paltry way can hurt Stevens & Gorton. They have the confidence of the settlers to strongly for that. "Settler" was quite lighti Mi" Kussell is cutting his own throat, and no one will feel' sorry when the ena cornea. He has made hosts of enemies, and you carinot hear a good word said of his paper anywhere, and I know of many who have already given it up iii disgust, through his personalities. Hfc knows this too, and yet he will not learn wisdom. He may go at Stevenb & Gorton for a blue moon, and it will not hurt them, but only himself, the' silly fellow^—l am,- &c, i BaHGITIH;EI liINE, i
