Bryce is making arrangements for the construction of the round head of Aotea hnibor. and also for the exploitation and opening up of tlie track between Kawhia and Alexandria. He has also given instructions for the survey of the block of, Government land at 'the head of Aotea, purchased m 1856, Captain Dinning, an old .identity, formerly belonging to the 50th Regt, is dead. Ho was aged 73 years.; Dunedin, December^ 11. The \ funerals of Mr Hepburn and Mr Street's son were largely attended - to-day. The High. School- boys acted as pall-bearers m tb?e case of the lad Street, and over 150 pupils attendee! the funeral of their late schoolfellow. The Inspector of Prisons paid a visit to the Otago Heads to day, and expressed the opinion thai the proposed harbor works their (breakwater, <fee.) would be very suitable for the employment of prison labor, which the Har-' bor Board are likely to obtain from the Government. \ , The weather to-day has been lovely. A poll taken at Port Chalmers to determine the question of borrowing £6000 to construct gasworks, resulted m the rejection of the proposal. .
