The public begin to i*ecogn:ize the fact that m sanitary matters mo re care will undoubtedly be necessary as our population increases. It has been pointed out to us that a very urgent want exists m the shape of public urinals being provided. Ifc is rather a difficult subject to deal li ith iv the columns of the Preas, but unless this is done public attention artd tlis pressure of public opinion will nofc be brought to bear. These necessary conveniences should be erected m tbe vicinity of the Square, as m their abse ace reni'lents pf the country are often, subjected to annoyance and inconvenience. They could be constructed So sa neither to be unsightly nor offonsiv c, ia any sense, and would require to be kept scrupulously clean, and reguhirly disinfected, he only public convenience of the kind is at the railway station, and that is riot always available ; nor indeed was it intended for the use of the general public, but for traveller by rail. Many persons do not care to have to search th • back yards of hotels for the requisite convenience, and miss, the accommodation that is provided m other places. For health's sake, a3 well as the convenience of the public, we trust the question will be brought up before long, . especially now when some of the urinals attached to some of the hotdls are being closed up as causing a nuisance. Much more nuisance is caused through there being no such conveniences ;for the use of the general public.
