Despatches to hand from Soudan state that the panic which arose &i> Khartoum, m consequence of expectation th«t El Mehdi would advance and besiege the town after having annihilated the Egyptian army under Hicks Pasha, is now subsiding, the rebels having shown no intention of taking advantage of the weakness of the garrison to make an attack.
