THE RETURNING COMET.
[From the Hartford (Connecticut) 'Weekly Times.] ,: Boston, 24th September— From the observations .at the Harvard College observatory of the returning comet of 1812, it appears to have experienced an., extraordinary outburst of light during the last '24 hours, amounting to accordr ing7fo~M r Chandler's estimates, ; to an - increase to six or eight times its previous brilliancy. The general aspect of the cornel has also entirely changed. From a diffuse nebulosity with a faint.: nucleus, it has suddenly become a starlike object. Both Mr Searfe aud Mr Chandler recognised a faint short brush of light towards the east, apparently indicating the- formation of a tail. The position taken up fully confirm Father : ' Searle's hypothesis of the indentity of the comet with that of 1812, and there is now no possible doubt on the subject/ ! Phelps, NX-; 24th September;'— The hew Brooks comet is now demonstrated ' I to be the long expected comet of 1812. Professor Brooks's observations show a^ remarkable iherease m- the brilliancy of the coniet since its discovery. It is now visible m good telescopes of modeiv - ate aperture near the Star Eta Draconis. It is rapidly approaching the earth and j suu. ' J
