PERSONAL JOURNALISM.
s The [.Cincinnati Enquirer, one of the most proniihent 'newspapers ill the S,tate of Ohio^. has -just supplied a striking example of .personal journalism.^ Mr Halstead,' the editor i of a rival paper, haying incurred the displeasure of the Enquirer, has been attacked m a style that would not discredit the celebrated . fishwife of Billiusgate. The public is infornied'that Mr Halstead is "a niixfcure, of rascality/ Vanity, and incapacity." * Thph that gentleujari' h told that the Ebquirer's VemarK&'arp' " addressed to him personally." « Stand' upy Mr Halstead," , his censor, and-.' hear the truth. &i Your whole trouble is atyotit you^ private conditioh. Your businewis a faiiure. In the eyes, of the people you are a conceited scoundrel. You are making a pitiable plea to newsagents and the reading public to ; paper frhidh hah always been devoted to the fruitless!, thankless task, of making the '■■ people' believe, .you were,: a great,. man — that thei;e ;) were something big about? you besides your bowels and. the- whites. ; of your^eyes,'' : Much .more information of the same pleasing character, . is imparted to Mr Halstead and the publics* : And the justifies its attack m this wise— " We 1 tell ? the truth because we have arContracc r with our readers to give them the exact facts." The final' paragraph of the phillipicis a gem m its way^- -«NW, Halstead, rise up on your hind' legs and yell !" We don't know whether Mr Halstead has accepted this invitation or not ; but we gather from the rest of the article- that his offende, against the Enquirer consisted m opposing the claims of its proprietor, wwhyo y is a candidate' for :soin© political office" m the State. . f." !
