It appears that the Chairman of ihe present Education' Bbai'tf" after Wking legal advice, 1 telegraphed- to the Government a long Bt ring of reasons to show that under iha> Education Diotrict Sub* division Act the proposed, new. elections could not be proceeded with m consequenceof the Subdivision Act and Education Act 1877 -not reading together. Government were asked for advice an j assistance m the matter, but they repu« diated action, m ; the capacity of legal adviser to the body. ~ Some of the Board Were for going on with the election on the ground that Government must validate their acti ; ! if they erredV but othars refused. After a deal of discussion the following ia the substance/ of a resolution come to '—That 'Government having declined to advise or assist, and the opinion pf the Board's solictor being that the election jofy the oew. Board cannot be gone on wirn, the Board declines to incur the election under the' Westlaud Education Subdivision Act.
