[Hauraki Tribune.] The QontindbusTMihistiy has got the colony into a" mess, and is working itself into deep water. The Customs revenue for the September quarter was deficient a, total of £79,672. '"'.ln the first six months of the current financial tern, the .deficit on Customs ' alone amounted to £108,580 for the year. The increase of public expenditure m the September quarter,, as compared with thb corresponding quarter of 1882, was £93,807, and deficiency , bills, for £109,000 have already been issued ■ from the Treasury. The Coloniil Treasurer has now the certainty- of. a largo deficit, which 1 must be met by other inean.^ than o the increase of taxation and throwing- the burden jof 'colonial, charges, upon, the local governing bodies. The Grey Government was ousted from office for its alleged extravagance; yet under' the present Administration the Civil Service expenditure "is increasing more rapidly than the public revenue.
