Thk Customs revenue for the colony for the month of October last amounted to £122,467, as against £109,040 for the corresponding period of last year, and as opposed to .£115>690 for the month of September last. The increase of last month is the best; for any-single monthUn the, history of JSTewi Zealand, excepting October, 187,8. The increase, however, js still Wder the estimated monthly average. Thp Customs receipts for the seven months of the present gnancial year _are £826,893, being
£59,773 less than seven-twelfths of th Treasurer's estimate for the full year. The department also collected £4996 beer duty for the colony, during the month of October, as against £4398 for the preceding month, and £5304 for the month of October of last year. The returns show that the total revenue raised under this head for the first seven months of the financial year amounts to £31,039, which amount is £5127 less than for the corresponding period:;of last year. The receipts therefore, it -will he seen, are slightly less than those of the corresponding period oflastyear.
