Borough Council.
WEDNESDAY'S MEETING. On the Council resuming, a report from the Committee was presented, to the effect that it be recommended to the Council that, as under the Roads and Bridges Construction Adt;"no money can be obtained for the purpose of river conservation until next year, the matter be left m abeyance, for.the present. The letter -is as follows:-—-Fitzherbert, Sept. 26, 1883. Robt. Keeling, Palmerston North. It is much to be regretted that the Borough Council should have based their application on ah erroneous plan. I cannot believe that the ratepayers of the whole Borough will consent to be rated for the cost of a work which may injure many properties, and benefit only a few persons who have bought their land at a low price m consequence of its being subject to floods. I have to request that this wiU'be brought before the Borough |Cpuncil. lam, Yours obediently, Michael Pbendebgast, (For Sir James Prendergast.) Resolved— That the report be received and adopted,, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Prendergast, requesting further explanation as to the statement that cprtain persons were to be benefitted at thp expense of others, i j
