Important to sheep FARMERS.
Thefollawing paragraph^ which 1 an- " peared m the limes of 18th Jul j, has a ' great' sighificance for breeders of matton m the colonies: — " Messrs Dore Smith, and Bodway sold by public auction^ on the 16 thinst., m their saleyard, Swindon, three pens of fat ewe« out of the wool, which had been fatted* ori grass, without cora or cake, at tne ! following e'ktfaordinary ~ :{ prices, - viz. :} 84s, 87s, and 81g per head per pen.", •;'■ The refrigerating companies ought to ;i take CQmfort from these figures. The ' allusion to the fact' that these sheep ( were fed without: oilcake has ; an importance which may not be fully appreciated It means that the mutton was m a thoroughly sound condition, free from ' the unpleasant 'flavour which is notice* able m meat fed on oilcake. It; is th» absence of this food that gives kustraJi' 1 Han and New Zealand mutton the dei?l Uciouß flavour which is. so( characteristic of mutton naturally fed, but which is ' destroyed by the hSste of breeders to f fatten up theirflodks at the earjiast ff , possible moment for the -market.
