Racing men wiM observe with satisfaction that the distance of the principal event has been reduced bf quarter of a mile. Races of l£ or 1| milea are much more suitable to the majority of horses m this district, and, if our local clubs would shorten the distances of many of their events, they would find that, more horses would face the starter. A grpat number of horses can get a mile and a half, who have no pretentions whatever to run a two mile race. _Tbmiriatibns for the principal event at Manawatu olose with the secretary, Mr Thomas R.
